With all that women have to do and the many "hats" they wear, it's easy for them to feel like they are "going south" physically, emotionally, or spiritually. And yet, others are depending on them and being influenced by them. So for those women who are running on empty, feeling lonely or weary, Lindsey O'Connor offers an invigorating dose of hope.
If Mama Goes South, We're All Going with Her looks at five biblical principles from Galatians for overcoming problems that weigh women down and dilute their influence on others. What does it really look like to "not grow weary in well doing"? Am I really making a difference? Why do I feel alone? These questions, and more, are touched upon with splashes of humor and plenty of personal depth. O'Connor includes a chapter about the delivery of her fifth child, an event that forced her into a ten-week coma, from which she is currently and miraculously recovering.

A Christian uses biblical principles to remind women that their ability to stay balanced and productive requires regular maintenance. Using her own life as a mother, homeschooler, and wife as a backdrop, O'Connor shows that any woman can "go south" when she overlooks her spiritual, emotional, and physical needs for too long. She offers practical ideas, such as providing oneself with the four types of rest and allowing oneself to receive from others instead of only giving. Her thinking about Christianity and her ideas about submitting to a husband's authority will polarize some listeners who view their spirituality less literally and feel less need to submit to male authority--human and Divine.
